Me­d­ina man charged af­ter po­lice chase

A BMW al­legedly stolen dur­ing a fright­en­ing armed rob­bery that left a young Beckenham fam­ily liv­ing in fear has been re­cov­ered by po­lice af­ter a chase through the south­ern sub­urbs on Satur­day night.

Two peo­ple in the ve­hi­cle have been charged with mul­ti­ple of­fences.

The young cou­ple who have a new­born said four men al­legedly forced their way into their Beckenham home at 4.30am on Satur­day. They said one of the men al­legedly grabbed the male oc­cu­pant by the shirt and threat­ened him with a gun be­fore steal­ing the fam­ily’s white BMW four-wheel-drive and items in­clud­ing a lap­top, jew­ellery and cash.

Ar­madale de­tec­tives saw the stolen car trav­el­ling along Railway Av­enue in Kelm­scott about 8.45pm on Satur­day. Of­fi­cers al­legedly at­tempted to stop the ve­hi­cle be­fore a chase en­sued, end­ing when the car was aban­doned at Mary Car­roll Park in Gos­nells. Two oc­cu­pants were ar­rested nearby a short time later.

A 25-year-old Me­d­ina man has been charged with a num­ber of of­fences in­clud­ing ag­gra­vated bur­glary and steal­ing a mo­tor ve­hi­cle in re­la­tion to the Beckenham home in­va­sion and reck­less driv­ing to es­cape pur­suit by po­lice.

A 26-year-old Kon­dinin woman has not been charged over the Beckenham in­ci­dent but has been charged with steal­ing a mo­tor ve­hi­cle and giv­ing false de­tails to po­lice.
