Medina man charged after police chase
A BMW allegedly stolen during a frightening armed robbery that left a young Beckenham family living in fear has been recovered by police after a chase through the southern suburbs on Saturday night.
Two people in the vehicle have been charged with multiple offences.
The young couple who have a newborn said four men allegedly forced their way into their Beckenham home at 4.30am on Saturday. They said one of the men allegedly grabbed the male occupant by the shirt and threatened him with a gun before stealing the family’s white BMW four-wheel-drive and items including a laptop, jewellery and cash.
Armadale detectives saw the stolen car travelling along Railway Avenue in Kelmscott about 8.45pm on Saturday. Officers allegedly attempted to stop the vehicle before a chase ensued, ending when the car was abandoned at Mary Carroll Park in Gosnells. Two occupants were arrested nearby a short time later.
A 25-year-old Medina man has been charged with a number of offences including aggravated burglary and stealing a motor vehicle in relation to the Beckenham home invasion and reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.
A 26-year-old Kondinin woman has not been charged over the Beckenham incident but has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and giving false details to police.
