Provide tangible support to homeless

Southern Telegraph - - OPINION - Arthur Galletly Rockingham

Re the Sound Telegraph front page article (’Bush dwellers told to move’, 10/4) with 17 homeless people being evicted from bushland. It coincides with the completion of the revitalisation of Railway Terrace. With all the new benches, I believe Railway Terrace will become a habitat for the displaced homeless.

Wouldn’t some of the money have been better spent on the homeless than on the revitalisation? It’s not going to look great when the displaced homeless move in with benches everywhere to sleep on and a water fountain.

Council needs to actually spend money on the homeless issue. It’s not going to go away. Allocate some land and provide actual services.

A welfare advocate can’t do much without support.
