More than chocolate, bunnies

Southern Telegraph - - NEWS - King Sacrifice Victory Pastor Devan Foster St Nicholas’ Rockingham

What three words summarise Easter? Chocolate? Bunny? Holiday? Good things, but Easter is about so much more.

It’s about Jesus: king, sacrifice, victory.

The Bible teaches God made us — and therefore is our king — but that each of us rejected his rule. And we are warned that if we keep rejecting him, one day he will reject us forever. But this is never his desire. So God comes to us in Jesus to show us what kind of a king he is. And as he walks the earth, Jesus proves he is God-in-flesh, our true king who does love us.

And King Jesus declares he’s come “not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many”. Our rejection of him deserves eternal death, yet Jesus would save us from that.

So he dies in our place that we might not die, but be forgiven and receive eternal life. The king dies for us.

But Easter doesn’t end with death; it ends with Jesus being raised from death.

This changes everything. It proves he is God and our true king, who lovingly sacrificed himself and resurrected for us that we might be with him for eternity. How will you respond?

Don’t refuse such love. Celebrate King Jesus this Easter with his people at a local church.
