Vehicles add to bush fire support
Mandogalup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and the Kwinana South Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade will receive two new bush fire support vehicles, donated by the BP Refinery Kwinana.
At the Wednesday, April 10 City of Kwinana council meeting, councillors voted to formally accept the offer of two surplus four-wheeldrive fire support vehicles, and to modify the 2018-19 budget to recognise the change. Fire support vehicles are used for periphery and off-season roles, reserving highvalue frontline vehicles for the purpose of fighting fires.
The City’s brigades have called for additional four-wheel-drive utility vehicles for several years.
As part of the transfer of ownership, the City will meet the ongoing costs of fuel, scheduled maintenance, registration and insurance of the vehicles, but will not fund the replacement of the vehicles.
The two volunteer bush fire brigades will each respectively meet the costs of modifying the vehicles to make them fit for purpose, and the cost of any major mechanical failures.
