Man to­face court on string of charges

A Scar­bor­ough man has been charged af­ter he al­legedly stole a car in Waikiki on Satur­day.

About 2.20pm on April 20, the man al­legedly went to a home in Merid­ian Mews and used force to steal a red Toy­ota coupe.

Dur­ing the process, po­lice said the owner of the vehicle and neigh­bours were as­saulted and re­quired med­i­cal at­ten­tion.

The stolen vehicle was then seen by po­lice near Fre­man­tle about 3pm.

No pur­suit was en­gaged by po­lice ve­hi­cles; how­ever, the po­lice air wing was used to fol­low the stolen car through­out mul­ti­ple sub­urbs over a pe­riod of an hour.

About 4pm po­lice used a stinger to slow the stolen vehicle in Sackville Ter­race, Scar­bor­ough.

A short time later the vehicle was stopped in Joyce Road Scar­bor­ough and the man was taken into cus­tody and has been charged with two counts of ag­gra­vated home bur­glary and com­mit, ag­gra­vated armed rob­bery, threat­en­ing to in­jure, en­dan­ger or harm, steal­ing, steal­ing a mo­tor vehicle, as­sault­ing a pub­lic of­fi­cer, ag­gra­vated as­sault and as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing bod­ily harm, ag­gra­vated un­law­ful wound­ing and reck­less driving to es­cape pur­suit by po­lice.

A num­ber of po­lice and civilian ve­hi­cles were dam­aged dur­ing the in­ci­dent but there were no se­ri­ous in­juries.

Po­lice would like to hear from any­one who was struck by the stolen car dur­ing the in­ci­dent, or any per­son who has dash cam footage on 131444.
