Life well lived
A race to hospital in a baker’s van on an autumn day in 1919 marked the early arrival of Verna McAullay, who this week reached her 100th birthday.
Born Lesley Clare McAullay in Victoria Park, she has lived through events that many of us have only heard or read about.
Moving around country Western Australia for her father’s work, Ms McAullay lived in towns such as York and Quairading.
She was a shop assistant and later joined the State Housing Commission, spending 25 years there undertaking clerical work.
She reached her centenary on Monday, celebrating the occasion at the Shoalwater Nursing Home.
