War memorial idea for Baldivis

Southern Telegraph - - NEWS -

A proposal for a War Memorial to be built in Baldivis is moving forward after City of Rockingham councillors voted to accept the concept and undertake community consultation for the project.

The City received a request for the memorial from resident Jessica Abbott, who called for the memorial in Settlers Town Square, Baldivis and to rename Settlers Town Reserve to Remembrance Park Baldivis.

In their report to council, City officers said a projected significant growth of the population of Baldivis is expected, and that the provision of a local small memorial would “aim to recognise those who have served and are currently serving in the Australian Armed Forces”.

City officers said they had identified that there was a war memorial near the corner of Safety Bay Road and Old Mandurah Road, Baldivis, but it was in a “very dilapidated state”.

An investigation process will gather more information about the history of this memorial and the process required to decommission it, if it is deemed appropriate.
