Bur­glary and sex charges

A man ac­cused of break­ing into a south­ern sub­urbs home and raping a young girl who had been sleep­ing has ap­peared in court to face charges re­lat­ing to the at­tack.

Daniel Jon Altieri, 29, ap­peared in Rock­ing­ham Mag­is­trate’s Court on Mon­day via video link from Ca­sua­r­ina Prison.

He has been charged with six counts of sex of­fences against the young girl, who is of pri­mary-school age, as well as ag­gra­vated bur­glary and threat­en­ing to kill. How­ever, he has not yet pleaded to any of the charges. The at­tack al­legedly oc­curred in the early hours of Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 23, with po­lice al­leg­ing Mr Altieri broke into the young girl’s home and sexually as­saulted her.

The girl’s fa­ther found Mr Altieri in the home, de­tain­ing him in a cit­i­zen’s ar­rest un­til po­lice ar­rived.

Po­lice have not re­leased the sub­urb where the al­leged at­tack took place, the age of the vic­tim or other de­tails of the in­ci­dent to pro­tect the iden­tity of the vic­tim and her fam­ily.

Mr Altieri will next ap­pear in court in July.
