Bouquets for City’s volunteers
City of Rockingham residents will have the opportunity to show their appreciation for volunteers as the City hosts free gift-making workshops during National Volunteer Week.
National Volunteer Week, fromMay 20 to 26 , is an annual celebration held country-wide to acknowledge the generous contribution volunteers make to the community.
The City will host four workshops to celebrate Volunteer Week.
The first will be a kokedama workshop, at the Warnbro Community Library from 5.30pm-7pm on May 20.
Kokedama is a form of Japanese garden art and participants will learn how to make a kokedama arrangement that they can give to a worthy volunteer.
On May 21, the City will host a mini posy-making workshop at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis.
Two sessions will be held from 3pm-4pm and 5pm-6pm.
Those taking part will be making small bouquets which they can give to a volunteer.
On May 22, residents will be able to create a mini succulent garden at Rockingham Central Library from 2pm-3pm while a card-making workshop will be held at Safety Bay Library on May 23 from 10.30am-12.30pm.
National Volunteer Week 2019 will be capped off with the City’s Volunteer Recognition Celebration on Thursday, May 23, at Gary Holland Community Centre.
The event will recognise and pay homage to a number of nominated local Rockingham volunteers.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged the community to get involved with the free workshops being held across the City’s libraries.
Numbers are limited and registrations are essential.
“The City of Rockingham is filled with a number of hardworking volunteers, who all do an amazing job for their respective clubs, community groups and not-forprofit organisations,” Cr Sammels said.
