Bou­quets for City’s vol­un­teers

City of Rock­ing­ham residents will have the op­por­tu­nity to show their ap­pre­ci­a­tion for vol­un­teers as the City hosts free gift-mak­ing work­shops dur­ing Na­tional Vol­un­teer Week.

Na­tional Vol­un­teer Week, fromMay 20 to 26 , is an an­nual cel­e­bra­tion held coun­try-wide to ac­knowl­edge the gen­er­ous con­tri­bu­tion vol­un­teers make to the com­mu­nity.

The City will host four work­shops to cel­e­brate Vol­un­teer Week.

The first will be a kokedama work­shop, at the Warn­bro Com­mu­nity Li­brary from 5.30pm-7pm on May 20.

Kokedama is a form of Ja­panese gar­den art and par­tic­i­pants will learn how to make a kokedama ar­range­ment that they can give to a wor­thy vol­un­teer.

On May 21, the City will host a mini posy-mak­ing work­shop at the Mary Davies Li­brary and Com­mu­nity Cen­tre in Bal­divis.

Two ses­sions will be held from 3pm-4pm and 5pm-6pm.

Those tak­ing part will be mak­ing small bou­quets which they can give to a vol­un­teer.

On May 22, residents will be able to cre­ate a mini suc­cu­lent gar­den at Rock­ing­ham Cen­tral Li­brary from 2pm-3pm while a card-mak­ing work­shop will be held at Safety Bay Li­brary on May 23 from 10.30am-12.30pm.

Na­tional Vol­un­teer Week 2019 will be capped off with the City’s Vol­un­teer Recog­ni­tion Cel­e­bra­tion on Thurs­day, May 23, at Gary Hol­land Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.

The event will recog­nise and pay homage to a num­ber of nom­i­nated lo­cal Rock­ing­ham vol­un­teers.

City of Rock­ing­ham Mayor Barry Sam­mels en­cour­aged the com­mu­nity to get in­volved with the free work­shops be­ing held across the City’s li­braries.

Num­bers are limited and reg­is­tra­tions are es­sen­tial.

“The City of Rock­ing­ham is filled with a num­ber of hard­work­ing vol­un­teers, who all do an amaz­ing job for their re­spec­tive clubs, com­mu­nity groups and not-for­profit or­gan­i­sa­tions,” Cr Sam­mels said.
