CAFE’S 7 YEAR MILESTONE
LOCAL business supporting local business is at the heart of what Brinx Deli does, stocking everything from relishes to drinks from across the Granite Belt while serving local produce on their cafe’s menu.
Owner Kristy O’Brien is obviously doing something right, as she just celebrated her cafe’s seventh birthday – and what better present than the reader’s choice award from Australian Good Food Guide.
It’s the second time Ms O’Brien has won the award but she said it was still just as special.
“With any award you’re a bit excited,” Ms O’Brien said.
“You’re getting recognised for something that you’re doing so it’s always a nice thing.”
She received the award in January but didn’t think to share it until now.
“I’m not a person to blow my own trumpet,” Ms O’Brien said.
“It’s probably a big thing but I just don’t see it that way.”
The award is given based on readers’ voting.
However, despite more than 100 positive reviews on Trip Advisor, Ms O’Brien was not immune from the negativity.
“I think a lot of people in the 21st century won’t speak up while they’re in your establishment,” she said.
“They don’t give you constructive criticism in the flesh so you can rectify it then and there.
“It’s really hard to not take it personally when it’s your heart and soul.”
