Stanthorpe Border Post - - SPORT -

A COOL spring morning greeted the 22 golfers who turned out to play for the RSL Monthly Medal last Wednesday.

After having been the runner up so many times this year, David Burgess finally claimed the winners trophy with a good round of 69 nett.

Close behind, and chasing his third medal of the year, was Keith Jones on a nett 70. Dave was on fire with the pin shots as well, winning the third.

There were no takers for the twelfth, but Keith Allen chipped in for a birdie to win the seventeenth. Keith also won the putting for the day, and newcomer Barry Hughes won the NAGA.

After the presentation, the RSL golfers kept with their practice of remembering significant events in

Australia’s military history.

Today’s talk was centred around Afghanistan, and the group listened intently as the citation for the awarding of the Victoria Cross to Trooper Mark Donaldson was read out.

The RSL golfers will play their next game next Thursday due to a visit from the Tenterfield ladies on Wednesday.

The Ladies Monthly Medal was won by Lynette Ludlow, with Linda Kelly the runner-up. Putts went to Lynette, with Annelle Batterham and Christine Welstead winning the pin shots.

WINNER: Santo Cavallaro has again got his name on the Laurie and Val Newley Trophy winning the Newley Memorial Golf Day on Saturday, congratulated by Golf Club president Steve Kay.
