A STAR-stud­ded field of fu­ture surf­ing cham­pi­ons re­cently con­verged on Pyra­mids Beach near Man­durah for the sec­ond event of the WA Ju­nior Surf­ing Ti­tles.

Clean and con­sis­tent one to two-foot waves pro­vided surfers with con­test-wor­thy conditions that were dom­i­nated by Peel lo­cals and South-West surfers aged nine to 17.

The blue-rib­bon event, the un­der-18 ju­nior boys, was hotly con­tested and taken out by Grace­town’s Ben Gradisen over Danny Benedetti and Seth Van Da­mon Hayes with surf academy stu­dents. Haeften, of Mar­garet River.

Charlie Cas­tle­den, of Cottesloe, took fourth po­si­tion.

April McPher­son of Man­durah took out the girls un­der-18 divi­sion over Emma Cat­tlin, of Yallingup, and Ara­belle Gib­son and Mad­die Ca­wood, of Mar­garet River.

Da­mon Hayes Surf Academy at Trigg Beach has the arduous task of train­ing and pre­par­ing the WA state team for the na­tional ti­tles in South Aus­tralia later this year. Neil Atkin­son, The Surf Board­room
