NEWMAN College students have won a state award for their cultural performance promoting reconciliation. The Churchlands school took part in the PALS (partnership, acceptance, learning, sharing) program run by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, which encourages young people to learn more about Aboriginal culture. Students created and performed Koort Kadadjiny Kadidjiny (Heart Learning), which used Noongar language, original music, song, movement and visual art. Newman College won the arts and culture award and the overall award.
