SCARBOROUGH beachgoers will never have to miss that Insta-worthy beach shot again.

A solar-powered smart bench installed at Scarborough Beach allows people to charge their mobile phone or device for free.

Osborne Park’s CleanAir Energy, Synergy and the City of Stirling joined to deliver the Steora bench, which has a wireless device charger and smart USB connector powered by integrated solar panels.

Synergy chief executive Jason Waters said it was an example of future technologies using energy intelligently.

“Perth receives around 300 days of sunshine each year, so it’s fantastic to explore additional ways to harness energy, such as being able to use the sun to charge your phone while you’re out and about,” he said.

The bench is at the northern end of the foreshore and near the Kinky Surf Cafe.
