THE fight against coronavirus went up a notch this week with the opening of a Covid-19 clinic in Joondalup.

The clinic, Perth’s fourth since three started at Royal Perth, Fiona Stanley and Sir Charles Gairdner hospitals earlier this month, opened at Joondalup Health Campus on the eve of strict rules around family and social gatherings coming into force.

JHC deputy chief executive Dr Amanda Ling said the ground floor clinic only tested people with symptoms of the virus.

Criteria for testing included having a fever and or respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough or sore throat and documented evidence of:

■ Overseas travel in the past 14 days (provide boarding pass or flight booking or airline bag tag with name and date of travel); or

■ Close contact of a confirmed Covid-19 case (provide name of case).

“Following testing, people should remain isolated at home until they receive their test results from PathWest and further medical advice,” Dr Ling said.

“People who don’t meet the case definition will not be tested and asked to selfmonitor for symptoms.”

The JHC Covid-19 clinic is open 8am to 8pm and is on the ground floor, nearest to the Regent Park Road entry with parking in car park P4.

The entry point will be along the outside walkway between Specialist Medical Centre West and the back entrance to the Physiotherapy Department.

People do not need to enter the hospital to gain access to the clinic.

Anyone who is unsure about whether they should attend the clinic should call 1800 020 080.

Call out for staff

Joondalup Health Campus is calling for registered nurses and midwives, enrolled nurses and nursing assistants.

The hospital is also seeking senior medical practitioners – particularly ICU, emergency medicine, respiratory medicine, anaesthesia and general medicine, general practitioners and junior medical practitioners.

Apply through the Ramsay Careers website.

Flick of a switch

JHC is ready to convert an area of the hospital into a “negative pressure/isolation ward” if called on by the Department of Health should the virus spread.
