EXHAUSTIVE DEVELOPMENT TO DELIVER TITANIUM STRONG OIL

-

ADVANCES IN ENGINE DESIGNS AND TECHNOLOGIES BEING DEVELOPED BY CAR MANUFACTURERS AIM TO DELIVER GREATER EFFICIENCY THAN EVER, BUT ALSO MEAN THAT ENGINES ARE WORKING HARDER AND UNDER HIGHER PRESSURES THAN EVER BEFORE. THE ONLY THING KEEPING METAL ENGINE COMPONENTS APART IS THE OIL, SO IT NEEDS TO BE STRONG AND REMAIN STRONG.

CASTROL EDGE IS BOOSTED WITH TITANIUM FST™, WHICH DOUBLES ITS STRENGTH AGAINST OIL FILM BREAKDOWN^. THE UNIQUE TITANIUM POLYMER IS PROVEN TO COMBAT FRICTION – WHICH SLOWS THE ENGINE, CONSUMES ENERGY AND IMPEDES THE ENGINE’S ABILITY TO DELIVER POWER – BY UP TO 15%*, AND REDUCES METAL-TO-METAL CONTACT THAT MAY CRITICALLY DAMAGE ENGINE COMPONENTS. ULTIMATELY, THIS HELPS THE ENGINE TO DELIVER MORE PERFORMANCE.

When compared to a major competitor, and in an independent engine test of film strength, lubricants with Castrol EDGE’S TITANIUM FST™ maintained their film strength for at least 140 hours** longer than the same oils without the TITANIUM FST™.

“THE UNIQUE TITANIUM FST™ IN CASTROL EDGE FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGES THE WAY CASTROL EDGE BEHAVES UNDER EXTREME PRESSURES,”

SAID SIMON GURNEY, SENIOR DEVELOPMENT TECHNOLOGIST

OF CASTROL.“OVER THE LAST DECADE, OUR RESEARCH SCIENTISTS PAINSTAKINGLY CONDUCTED HUNDREDS OF TESTS IN THE LABORATORY AND ENGINE TEST CELLS TO TEST, DEVELOP, REFINE AND FINE-TUNE THE LUBRICANT BLEND FORMULATIONS.”

More than 2,400 individual lubricant blends were tested using a wide range of different tools and processes to develop the optimal recipe. This analysis included tests to prove the lubricant’s capacity to reduce friction, minimise metal-to-metal contact, prevent wear and corrosion, and operate at extremes of high and low temperatures. The appraisal of he lubricant’s performance during these tests was measured in a variety of ways.

“Because we’re pushing the boundaries of physical and chemical science, in order to better understand how and why Castrol EDGE with TITANIUM FST™ increases the oil film strength of the lubricant, we worked with world-leading scientists in renowned academic institutions that are specialists in examining material properties in extreme environments,” explains Gareth Dowd, Expert Technologist of Castrol.

“THESE RESEARCHERS EMPLOY ADVANCED TOOLS TO INVESTIGATE THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE LUBRICANT STRUCTURE AT A MOLECULAR LEVEL UNDER INCREDIBLE PRESSURES. TO EXPLAIN SOME OF THE PHENOMENA OCCURRING WITHIN THE OIL AT THESE EXTREME PRESSURES THEY DEVELOPED NEW SCIENTIFIC TECHNIQUES, AND PIONEERING WITH TECHNIQUES THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN USED BEFORE,” CONTINUES GARETH DOWD.

Such are the lengths that Castrol goes to so that motorists can be absolutely confident that their engine will perform however and whenever the driver demands.

^Based on tribological tests.*in our testing, Castrol EDGE with TITANIUM FST ™ gave up to 15% lower friction than the same Castrol oil without TITANIUM FST ™. Products representing 61% of our 2012 sales volume were tested.**in independent tests of engine wear, Castrol EDGE oils with TITANIUM FST ™ maintained its film strength more than 140 hours longer than the same Castrol oils without TITANIUM FST™. ***In our variable speed Fluid Strength Test, Castrol EDGE with TITANIUM FST ™ gave up to 45% less metal-to-metal contact than a major competitor’s product. Products representing 61% of our 2012 sales volume were tested.
