MIGHTY MOUSE

THERE must be something in the water in WA at the moment. Recently we saw former Summernats dyno pin-up boy Eddy Tassone click off 357km/h in his twin-turbo GTO (more on that next issue), and his fellow West Aussies at Streetbuilt Racing have also been kicking arse lately.

We’re referring to Lorenzo Gullotto’s VL Calais, which has been fitted with the 388ci LS motor out of his GTO. Rumour has it there have been no real changes save for a set of Precision 76/75 turbos and an upgraded fuel system with the addition of a mechanical fuel pump.

On pump E85, the car made a monstrous 1743rwhp at 7250rpm on 40psi. This is going to make for interesting times if it comes to Drag Challenge!

GOOD TO BE KING

WHEN it comes to six-bangers, nothing sounds sexier than a Toyota 2J with 9000rpm on board and 50psi of boost. It’s a freak of an engine, and one combination that cannot go without praise is Frank Tarabay’s Gas Motorsport-prepared Supra, KING2J. There are not too many streeters out there that can boast a six-second timeslip, but Frank recently ran a 6.98@208mph on a 1.16 60-foot – and on a 275! Frank, please take a bow.

UP TO THE CHALLENGE

CANBERRA’S Ben Doble has been slowly putting together one of the toughest and coolest Mopar maulers we’ve seen in Australia. His 1970 Dodge Challenger has had the front end removed forward of the windscreen, with new rails and a sheet-metal firewall going in, as well as a right-hand-drive steering conversion. Everything front of the firewall will be tubular, right down to the Alterktion suspension.

The engine is a Hellcat Hemi that will be fitted with a pair of 66mm Precision turbos as well as the factory supercharger and built forged internals, backed by a built 4L80E. The stock 8¾in rear has been turfed and replaced with a Dana 60.

The car is rolling on Hellcat wheels and tyres with huge six-spot brakes from the new Mustang.

We can’t wait to see this car progress – it will be killer.

WHIPPLE MUSTANG

WE KNOW the stock Coyote motor in the new Mustangs are pretty tough, but Autotech in Hume, ACT has just finished a Whipple supercharger upgrade on a 2018 Mustang that has cranked out 512rwkw.

Even more impressive is that it was achieved with a 2.9-litre Whipple on pump 98 fuel and on just 9psi.

The boys will do a change to E85 to shoot for 600rwkw – that’s 800hp at the bags on a stock 5.0-litre engine!
