HOLDEN’S PROJECT MONARO NEARS COMPLETION
> AND YOU CAN WIN IT!
ONLY a few issues back we introduced you to Holden’s Project Monaro build, which at the time was very much in its infancy. Now it’s a very different story, with the Monaro almost reborn and ready to be handed off to one lucky person.
The car was sent to a Holden dealer to be pulled back to its bare bones, ready for a thorough goingover after 15 years and 200,000km of work logged. The whole driveline was dropped out for a rebuild, with the body getting sent to Dominic Mazzeo at B&A Motor Body Repairs for some loving, along with a fresh lick of custom-mixed PPG paint.
While the car was to remain as an auto LS1 package, the engine was sent to one of the best in the business for a bit of a tickle. Maurice Fabietti, owner of both Fabietti Race Engines and the monster 3500hp Acdelco Monaro Pro Slammer, gave the LS a full makeover with a hot cam from Eagle Auto Parts, a bump in compression to 11.3:1 and a pair of Cnc-ported Higgins Race heads. To back it up, both the 4L60E ’box and LSD were rebuilt with genuine Holden parts to keep the new-found ponies in check.
There’s not much point throwing extra power at a car without upgrading the brakes and suspension to match. Craig Lowndes headed to familiar ground at the Red Bull Holden Racing Team, where the boys sorted Project Monaro out with a set of AP Racing anchors, as well as Eibach springs and Sachs dampers tuned by the boffins at RBHRT. Completing the handling package is a set of 19-inch alloys wrapped in Bridgestone rubber.
While custom paint and some new spinners are nice, it wasn’t quite enough to set this Monaro apart from the rest. To fix that, some custom 3D-printed parts from EVOK3D were cooked up (see our 3D printing feature on page 118) – the same mob that RBHRT uses for parts for the team’s Supercars – as well as one-off badges and gauges from Luna Nameplate Industries.
If you’d like a chance to win this modern classic, spend $100 on Holden Genuine or Acdelco parts, or on servicing at a Holden dealer, or on an Acdelco battery at either a Holden dealer or an authorised re-seller. If you’re in the trade, you can also enter through the Holden Trade Club. If you miss out on the car, then fear not! You could still jag Lowndesy’s Ultimate Holden Garage – basically a shed full of memorabilia, tools and other beaut stuff. Minor prizes of Red Bull Holden Racing merchandise vouchers will also be given away every month.
