SMOTY PARTY

THE SM crew kicked off the New Year in style at the annual Valvoline SMOTY shindig. Held on the Thursday night of the ’Nats, it was a prime opportunity for a chinwag and a few frosty ones with the industry’s movers and shakers. Most importantly, we officially bestowed the honour of Street Machine Of The Year upon Matthew Morgillo and his killer HQ Statesman, and handed over a $20,000 cheque from our besties at Valvoline. Check out all the frivolity on page 174 of this issue.

BROCKING FOR A CAUSE

WINNING a freshly completed VL Brock tribute would no doubt be a pretty swell feeling, but what’d be even better is knowing the money raised went to a good cause. The team and inmates at Junee Correctional Centre have again built a quality street machine and raffled it off for charity, this time Country Hope, which cares for country kids suffering from cancer. A massive $64,000 was raised, and the car looks great. Congratulations to all involved, especially Wagga couple Fiona and Rory Dawson, who were lucky enough to win the thing!

SUMMERNATS never fails to unearth hot new metal, and rolling on from the mind-bendingly tough mountain-motored Torana on the cover of this very issue, we’re going to keep the Summernats 33 debutants rolling in the March issue of Street Machine, with Kevin Mantach’s oh-so wild ’50 Chev skid car. We’ll also bring you a double feature on a pair of killer Ford coupes, along with a blown HK Holden, a tough-as-hell Walky replica, and a turbo V8 XR Falcon to name but a few. We’ll head west for Motorvation, then hop a plane across the ditch for Muscle Car Madness in the Land of the Long White Cloud. Plus we’ll have all your favourite regulars and oodles of tech to boot! The March issue of Street Machine is on sale 27 February. Get yours then!
