BATTLE OF THE BULGE

-

HEY Street Machine, I have some questions about body mods. I’m just a young fella, and my dream car would be something like Kyle Hopf’s 6BOOST Camaro (Urban Warfare, SM, May ’19), but street-legal. I understand this would be a huge project and the cars couldn’t be the same, but I can’t find specific info on some of the mods and was wondering if you could help me out.

First, I know the bonnet bulge on 6BOOST may be too tall to be legal, but is the design okay? Many of the cars in your magazine have very severe reverse cowls, and I haven’t seen the bulge design on a street car before.

Also, is the drag wing legal? As far as

I can tell, it looks like special approval would be needed and that it would have to serve a purpose.

Thanks, and please keep up the good work!

HEY Jett, always check with your local transport authority or engineer about what modifications are legal in your state. For example, here in South Australia, the current rules state that a bonnet scoop must be constructed from the same material as the OEM bonnet, and you need to be able to see 11 metres in front of the car from the driver’s eyeline with the seat in the lowest and most rearward position. – Shane Dale, Deluxe Metal Shaping Co, Adelaide
