LETTER OF THE MONTH

LOST & FOUND

HI GUYS, I thought I would send some pics and a bit of a story of my XM ute. It was a feature car in your magazine back in November 2002. It was a very successful show car within the Adelaide scene, taking out many top awards.

I regretfully sold it due to a relationship in late 2004, and not long after my father passed away suddenly. That’s when I was at my lowest.

I always swore I would buy it back if I ever had the chance. I looked, and had friends look high and low, but no luck. I was ready to move on, when one day I was having my morning coffee with the wife and it popped up for sale. I was like a kid in a candy store!

Little did I know the missus had arranged with two best mates to buy it from Victoria and surprise me!

The car has had four owners since me, yet it hadn’t changed one bit from when my uncle built it in 1999.

I have given it a lot of love, and it now presents as good as it did 21 years ago.

This car means the world to me.

TOP MARKS

THANKS so much for the Legend article (SM, Aug ’20) – due to work I only managed to get a copy yesterday. Was a great read, and really well laid out. Many thanks to Craig Parker for following it up, from the initial chat we had all the way through. For me the most enjoyable part was the interview on the phone.

Thanks sincerely once again to everyone involved.

MAX VELOCITY

HOPEFULLY all of you Street Machine readers have signed the petition to bring the Mad Max Interceptor back where it belongs: Australia. I would love it to cruise the hallowed locations it did back in 1978/1979. It’s the duck’s guts, Maxy! She’s meanness put to music and the bitch is born to run!

Big thanks to Street Machine for starting this petition.

Rhett Corbett, email

HEY mate, it’s a great cause for sure. If anyone hasn’t signed the petition yet and wants to help bring the Interceptor back to Oz, you can find it at change.org. – Broads

OUT OF AFRICA

GOOD day, we are a custom shop in South Africa and are currently restoring an El Camino (HQ Holden ute, pictured above). We struggle to find certain parts and were wondering if maybe you can help with a list of potential suppliers.

Some of the things we need include brake parts, body mount rubbers, suspension bushing, ball joints, steering tie rod ends, cab rubbers, body trim clips and fasteners, bonnet hinges and diff parts.

Bianca Ferreira, Free State Chopper,

Bloemfontein, South Africa

HEY guys! Rare Spares would be your first port of call (rarespares.net.au), and for brake parts and upgrades, hit up Hoppers Stoppers (hoppers.com.au). – Telf

TORANARAMA

HEY guys, love the mag! As a fan of old-school muscle cars, I think it’s great to have a wide variety of makes and models represented in the mag. However, since Broads has taken over I can’t help but notice the abundance of LC/LJ

Toranas gracing the pages of this wonderful monthly read. There have been multiple Torana covers since the reins were handed to you, big guy.

We get it, Broads – you’re a Torana lover! But this isn’t Torana magazine! Please give us a wider variety on the front page.

Michael Fox, Bathurst, NSW

HEY Michael, it might seem like there’s been a sudden overabundance of Toranas on the cover since I took over as editor, but both Clint Ogilvie’s LC and Luke Mitchell’s LJ were shot for the cover months ago on Telfo’s watch. In a perfect world, there’d have been more than three months separating them, but this whole COVID-19 mess has prevented us from moving photographers around as freely as we otherwise would, so Luke’s car got the call-up earlier than planned. – Broads
