MOTOREX!

AFTER COVID put the kibosh on the 2020 event, Meguiar’s Motorex is back at Melbourne Showgrounds, 6-7 February. All of the usual goodness will be in full effect, including some killer unveils, the Superstars showdown, drift rides, Performance Garage marketplace and the ever-popular Real Street show. But the big news is that there will be burnout displays for the first time ever, starring the likes of Lynchy, Rick Fuller and Matt Watts. For more info, check out motorex.com.au. It will be a big month for events in Victoria, with Showcars Melbourne back at Moonee Valley Racecourse on 21 February. Unfortunately, the Victorian Hot Rod Show will not be on for 2021, but plans are in place for 2022.

OPTIMA CHALLENGE POSTPONED

WE’RE pumped for the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car event, but thanks to COVID-19, we’re going to have to wait a little longer than planned to watch – and quite possibly partake in – the search to find Australia’s most well-rounded street car. It’s now going down at Calder Park Raceway on 20-21 November 2021, so adjust your calendar to suit, and get there! The pro touring movement has been gaining plenty of momentum Down Under in recent years, and there’s already an impressive variety of chrome-bumper toughies registered to compete. To get involved, head to driveoptima.com.au. There are two trips to SEMA and the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational in Las Vegas on the line, so it’s well worth your while to have a crack!

NEXT!

THE February 2021 issue of Street Machine is set to be a cracker, headlined by our Summernats Slam coverage. Slam will see the debut of the L67-powered VN built by the Carnage boys, and it will also be the first time at the track for our newly Th400-equpped Volvo. Can’t wait to take them both down Skid Row – and the new Sydney Dragway surface. We’ll also take a deep dive into Joe Gauci’s Profab workshop, check out a killer Dodge Dart from South Oz, and much more. On sale 28 January.
