SASSY CHASSIS

-

ONE of the best things about the American aftermarket industry is having the luxury of buying an off-the-shelf chassis ready for a drivetrain, wheels and fluids, but made far better than the vintage original piece. Roadster Shop has become one of the go-to outlets to buy readyto-roll frames for classic muscle cars and trucks.

With different frames available to suit a variety of ride heights and ground-clearance options, the shop offers coil-over and air-suspended options, with a host of different engine fitments and big or small brakes. They can even build you a complete custom frame to suit individual project requirements.

The frame being fitted to the C4C Camaro is from the shop’s SPEC line, which focuses on improving muscle-car ride and handling dynamics. Available for a range of popular American cars, the chassis comes powdercoated, plumbed and boasting high-quality hardware like coil-over struts and beefy sway-bars, while the nine-inch diff out back won’t need upgrading.

Moits is the Australian agent for Roadster Shop and has been working with the company to develop a range of chassis options for popular Aussie cars, as Glenn explains.

“I’ve been following the pro touring scene for a very long time, probably going back to when we built HARDHT, and the Roadster Shop guys have been at the forefront of that scene this whole time,” he says. “Their concepts seem to fit with what we want to achieve here. We have worked with Roadster Shop to come up with a design of a chassis for Aussie Falcons from scans we sent them. We have commissioned them to build five of them, although four are already sold.”

While the Ford frames will be first down the production line, Holden fans need not feel left out.

“We have an HQ range coming,” Glenn says. “Roadster Shop definitely picked up on the similarities between HQ and GM A-body frames, but there are some key design differences there.”

While Moits Motorcars is keen to become a shop responsible for building killer cars, Glenn also sees great opportunities in providing access to these chassis for Aussies who want to DIY.

“Ultimately, we want to offer two variations: you can either have the car built by us as a complete drive-in, drive-out vehicle; or buy the chassis from us to be installed yourself. Obviously, once the car is complete, the chassis would need to go through all the engineering steps, but we’d like to get to a point where there is a nominal approval for the chassis, pending final compliance testing.”
