TRACTION EV’S much-loved and well-used demonstrator 1968 VW Beetle runs an 88kw Hyper 9 electric motor. Ever driven a standard Beetle? If so, the acceleration of this silent weapon will shock. James reckons it keeps up with a stock SS Commodore, but he’ll leave drag racing duties to the Skyline. The classic Bug’s little twin tailpipes remain poking out from under the body, but there’s no smoke to be seen.
