IF YOU look up the old adage ‘driven not hidden’ in the fictional Street Machine dictionary, you’ll find an image of Gary Myers and GM176. Not content with doing countless burnouts (including four Summernats Championships), a spot of drag racing and hours of cruising, Gary ventured out to Lake Gairdner in 2001 to test out the Mustang on the Great White Dyno – in the same issue we announced the car’s 2001 SMOTY win.

With Arby manning the camera and voice recorder, Gary piloted the Mustang to a best of 170mph – that’s 270km/h! Impressive stuff for a street car on its first trip to the salt.
