QUEENSLAND RACEWAY SOLD
MOTORSPORT enthusiast and businessman Tony Quinn has recently acquired Queensland Raceway for $12 million from John Tetley. The sale means Quinn has added QR to his existing circuit portfolio of New Zealand’s Hampton Downs, Highlands and Taupo Motorsport Parks. For South East Queensland motorsport fans, Quinn’s takeover of QR is a step in the right direction, as the venue seemed neglected since it was first opened in 1999, with basic facilities at the circuit serving function over form. “My business model is more of a reinvestment model, looking after the equipment and facilities, which then looks after the business,” Quinn explained.
BLOWN SILVERADOS
WALKINSHAW has unveiled its long-awaited supercharger kit for the Silverado 1500 range, boasting power increases of over 50 per cent. Developed in conjunction with Harrop, the kit can add a maximum of 146kw and 215Nm to the existing power of any Australian-delivered Silverado 1500. “Pricing hasn’t been completely finalised, but it’ll start at around AU$20,000,” said Riccardo Pontonio from Walkinshaw Performance. “There’s already been a lot of interest in the package, and it should be publicly available by Christmas,” he said. Walkinshaw states that a 1500 fitted with both the supercharger kit and its optional exhaust recorded a best 0-100km/h time of 4.76sec, with a quarter-mile best of 12.66@110mph.
