> UNDER 25 WITH A KILLER CAR? YOUNG STREET MACHINE OF THE YEAR IS BACK!

- STORY JACK HOULIHAN

MILWAUKEE Young Street Machine of the Year is back for its second year, ready to offer one young car nut a sweet $2500 prize, plus some major bragging rights. We launched Young SMOTY last year as a spin-off to our long-running Street Machine of the Year award, throwing entries open to anybody aged 24 or under with a cool project that’s been modified in Australia. The goal is to encourage the next generation of street machiners to carry our sport into the future, many of whom are working with less experience and smaller budgets than our fullblown SMOTY challengers.

That’s not to say the builds coming from our under-25s are sub-par, as proven by the extremely talented young men and women featured in our Young Gun columns and the up-and-coming fabricators honoured through the yearly Laurie Starling Memorial Scholarship.

Aussie muscle, JDM rockets, Euros, 4x4s, hot rods, customs, or just about any other genre you can imagine are all fair game in Young SMOTY, and unlike our usual SMOTY, there’s no requirement for eligible cars to have been featured in Street Machine before. If you entered last year, you’re more than welcome to give it another crack, too, and it doesn’t matter when your car was finished, be it a day before submission or five years ago.

Just like in 2022, the SM team will hand-pick 16 finalists that we feel best exemplify the competition, and they’ll go in the running for a cool $2500 cheque courtesy of the legends at Milwaukee. The winner will be decided by our readers, with another $2500 prize on offer to one lucky voter, too!

We drew in boatloads of entries last year, and the final margins between many of the finalists were as tight as a fish’s proverbial. In the end, Maxamillion Edwards’s epic widebody, twin-turbo Crown Majesta was crowned the winner, as chosen by the public.

Entries for Young SMOTY are open now on the SM website! You’ll find more info there, but in a nutshell, all you need to do is give us some basic info, a spiel about your car, and some pics that showcase your pride and joy as best as possible. You’ve gotta be in it to win it!
