Get a heart flutter from a local love story
It was love at first shared laughter — except at the time they weren’t aware of it.
Arranged by mutual friends, the newly-wed couple Brock and Peta Mcintyre (nee Whatmore) met at Amigo’s for their blind date and became instant best friends.
When asked about the proposal, the bride answered it was a night she would never forget.
Brock had pre-arranged for fairy lights to be lit along the path to a big tree as soon as they stepped outside for their “walk” at Gip’s Restaurant, fooling Peta, who had assumed they were motion sensored lights. It was under that tree he proposed. She said yes. With a classic and elegant theme in navy, yellow and a splash of red, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Rangeville Community Church on Saturday, July 1, with their reception held at the Highfields Cultural Centre.
“When we first started dating, Brock would try to draw a heart on me to say he loves me, but they always ended up looking more like apples,” Peta laughs.
“So in response I’d say apple until he drew something closer to a heart.”
A sentiment that carried into their wedding as a personalised and unique bonbonniere — an apple.
The highlight of the reception was the groom’s speech, straight from the heart and not a dry eye in the room including the bride’s.
Radiating love and smiles all around they thanked everyone who attended, near and far.
Especially to Brett Buckley, from Wippell’s, who provided a vehicle last-minute for the couple.
“At the end of the day the only thing that truly matters is that you are marrying the person you love and have chosen to spend the rest of your life with,” Peta says. “Your wedding day is one day. “Your marriage is for the rest of your life.”
