Meghan Bryant takes us on a whimsical trip to Bali

EXPLORE ALL THE SUN, CULTURE AND BEAUTY IN BALI

- BY MEGHAN BRYANT THE CHRONICLE

Bali is immersed in sun, culture and breathtaking beauty — making it the perfect tropical paradise.

While Kuta is known for being the island’s most popular high-voltage tourist destination, holiday-makers can treat themselves to a relaxing few days in Seminyak.

Visiting the island for the second time with my husband in June, it was very different to our first experience.

Being there the first time in 2012, the third-world country seemed very overwhelming and we weren’t sure where to start — but this time we were prepared.

Our goal was to spend the week eating, drinking cocktails and relaxing.

We spent a majority of our time along Seminyak’s most influential dining strip with cuisines from around the world, ranging from Greek and Indonesian to Australian.

But it isn’t just the food to get excited about, it’s the incredible venues with ocean views.

Sitting beach side, relaxing on a day bed with a drink in hand is what Seminyak is all about.

With so many restaurants and bars to choose from, there is no way you can cover them all.

Perhaps the most well-known and my personal favourite place to spend the day (and night) is Potato Head Beach Club.

The club walls are made up of mismatched 18th century window shutters collected from across the Indonesian archipelago, giving it an edge from the moment you enter.

As soon as you step inside the beach club, the site is enough to take your breath away.

It opens onto a sandy beach, and the beachfront bar and 500-square meter lawn leads to an infinity pool with a swim-up bar — all housed inside an incredibly designed open amphitheatre.

Once inside, my husband and I try and order a day bed, where we will have our own personal waiter, making us feel like royalty. Alas, there is a two-hour wait. Everyone wants to be treated like a king and queen.

But no matter, we spend the next two hours in the beach bar, sitting in the sand and splashing around in the pool.

When it is our turn to make use of the day bed, I immediately order the club’s specialty cocktail and some tapas and begin reading.
