Beauty specialist Tennielle Copson shares her tips on travelling and beauty
For many of us summer is the best season to travel and for us girls it can be hard to brave the world without our arsenal of make-up. While travelling you need to keep your beauty routine simple. You want to be exploring the wonders of the world, not glued to your hotel mirror. Your make-up bag should be organised with two looks in mind - a minimalistic natural look for everyday sightseeing and a glamour look for the nightlife.
TRAVEL MAKEUP KIT FACIAL CLEANSER
Cleansers are ideals for days when you spend a lot of time in the sun or salt water.
BB CREAM
This versatile product will streamline your beauty routine as it is a moisturizer, primers, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and foundation all in one.
EYE SHADOW PALETTE
Choose a compact palette that contains three to four shades that you can mix and match that will complement the clothes you have packed.
EYELINER – BLACK CHARCOAL OR BROWN
Recommend a waterproof pencil or pen to avoid the need of packing an eyeliner brush.
EYEBROW KIT
To achieve a bit more fullness and symmetry, choose a brow-volumizing fibre gel. This adds little fibre-like hairs to fill in gaps or thin spots.
LIP GLOSS WITH SPF (1 NATURAL AND 1 BOLD COLOUR)
Protecting your lips does not mean you have to give up your favourite lip colour. Plus go from day to night with a bold lip colour.
BLUSH
Add a natural hue to your cheeks. Choose a colour that best complements your complexion but keep it neutral enough to go with any outfit.
BRONZE POWDER COMPACT
A duo shade bronzer is great. Use the lighter shadow when you’re a little paler and the darker shadow once you gotten a little colour from being out in the sun. You can also use this compact to check your hair and make-up throughout the day.
SETTING SPRAY
This product is formulated to preserve your make-up for long periods of time.
MAKE-UP BRUSHES
Minimise the brushes you need by using products that you can easily apply with your fingers. You should only require a few brushes for eyeshadow and loose powders like bronzer.
TWEEZERS, NAIL CLIPPERS AND FILE
These are always great to have handy. Make sure you don’t carry tweezers in your hand luggage so they aren’t taken off you at airport security!
MAKEUP TRAVELLING TIPS
Preparing for an upcoming trip? Here are some helpful tips to avoid any bad experience with make-up whilst travelling.
USE ZIPLOC BAGS
Even the most tightly screwed-on lids have a way of opening, leaving you with a mess to clean up upon arrival. Always store your liquid products in Ziploc bags before placing them in your suitcase.
MAKE YOUR COMPACT SHATTERPROOF
Place a cotton disc in your powder compacts to help prevent the mirror inside from breaking and the product from cracking during travel.
PACKING CURLING IRONS OR HAIR STRAIGHTENERS
If you simply cannot live without your hair styler, pack them inside an oven mitt. That way if the styler is still warm you can protect the other items in your suitcase from melting or burning.
USE MULTI-PURPOSE PRODUCTS
Condense your make-up bag by using multi-purpose products. For example, a shimmery eye shadow can work as a skin highlighter, or a lipstick can be blended out on the cheeks as a blush.
GET EYELASH EXTENSIONS
With eyelash extensions, you can skip the mascara and if cared for will last four to six weeks.
SKIP THE NAIL POLISH
Regular nail polish will only last four to five days. Instead, treat yourself to a gel mani-pedi which will last up to four weeks.
PACK A BLOTTING SHEET
To minimise sweat keep a pack of blotting sheets in your purse. Simply dap the paper over you face to remove shine and keep your make-up in place.
