If you want to kiss your dry lips goodbye this winter you need more than just wishing and hoping: You need to take action.

Laura Harrock’s has been in the beauty industry around Toowoomba since she was fourteen and has learnt all the ins and outs of beauty therapy. Now 22-years-old and a small-business owner of her own beauty boutique (Laura Grace Beauty Boutique) and even has her own organic and handmade skincare products (Manifest Skincare), Laura has a whole swag of tips and tricks to help us look our best including the latest on dry lips.

She sees plenty of clients at this time of year come in looking for a solution for sore, dry and cracked lips.

The thinner skin that makes up the lips is much more fragile than the rest of the face, so they need a little extra love, she says.

Wind and cold weather affect moisture balance in lips, and so do heaters when on high which can cause moisture in lips to evaporate leaving them dehydrated Laura tells Style.

Laura also noted that we tend to switch out the water for a warm cuppa in winter.

Without regular water intake your lips lack a little TLC that they would get from some water each day.

Even acne medication can influence the look of your lips, although this is completely normal Laura clarifies.

Acne products work by reducing oil production in the skin Laura explains, so dry lips are one of the side effects, which are heightened thanks to the change in weather.

Fixing and preventing these, sometimes painful, lip problems Laura say the trick is to be prepared for the worst; you don’t want to be caught out.

SPECIAL

Good quality lip balms should be applied to keep the moisture balance in the lips as regularly as you need.

Keep hydrated by drinking water or herbal tea to keep your body’s hydration level up, this is important for skin health and overall health so it’s great to make this a habit.

If you find you have some dryness try making a lip exfoliant at home, it’s a lot gentler, and sort of like a mini facial for your lips.

If you do get caught out, avoid picking at the dry skin as this will cause the lips to become sore and even cause bleeding, so treat them kindly!

Choosing the right products to look after your lips can be difficult, especially with so many on the market. Laura says that the mainstream products are popular for a reason. Laura herself was on an acne prescription medication for three years in high school that caused extreme dryness in her lips. It’s safe to say with these experiences and eight years in the beauty industry, Laura knows what does the trick; here are her top four lip loves that she trusts all year round. 1. 3.
