When I was a child, Christmas day was spent in either underwear, a swimsuit or, if I was really dressing up, I’d be in pyjamas.

It was only when I grew up that I realised a lot of people were putting effort into their ideal ‘Christmas day outfit’ or making a point of finding the perfect shoe that can take you seamlessly to a family function and to a friend’s barbecue.

If the latter sounds like your vibe, then can I suggest this season — first things first — go get yourself a fabulous earring!

Yeah, yeah, I know, earrings are nothing new but there’s a certain group of ear candy that are really having a moment right now.

They’re mainly minimal metal styles, nothing too statement-y or loud.

Geometric shapes, hoops and fine lines are the way to go.

My favourite labels out of Australia are Ellery, Natasha Schweitzer and Holly Ryan.

Or for international brands there’s Knobbly Studio, Alighieri Jewellery, Sophie Buhai and Celine.

Check them out on Instagram and you’ll see what I mean.

The best bit? With their likeness to shiny Christmas tree ornaments, you could throw a subtle nod to festive dressing while still adding an element of sophistication to your silly season ensemble.

It’s like the ugly Christmas jumper, but classy.

Earrings aren’t your thing or have non-pierced lobes? No problem! Earrings make a great gift this time of year.

And if they are for you? They’re a pretty perfect self-gift.

’Ears to a happy Christmas!
