Get the facts, not the flu

The flu is a highly contagious virus that is easily spread through droplets via coughing and sneezing. Severe cases can lead to life-threatenin­g complicati­ons and hospitalis­ation. Unlike the common cold, an influenza infection can leave a patient bed-ridden with high fevers, body aching, loss of appetite and dehydratio­n. With the winter months fast approachin­g, it is time to start thinking what you can do to get prepared for the cold and flu season. How you can protect yourself and family this season

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze

• Support your immune system with supplement­s such as vitamin C, zinc, echinacea, and olive leaf extract. It is a common mispercept­ion that receiving the influenza vaccine will result in you getting the flu. This is not the case, however there is a potential to get flu-like symptoms following the vaccine. Other possible side effects include: • Localised pain, redness and swelling at the
