Magic in the air

Sunday Herald Sun - Body and Soul - - Try It Out - with Yasmin Boland

Everyday events take on an extraordinary glow thanks to this week’s New Moon. The New Moon this week takes place on a very magical point in the skies associated with alchemy, which is about making something precious out of something ordinary. It’s a wonderful challenge to us all, to try to apply this formula to our lives.

Let’s take a simple example of saying goodbye to friends after a dinner together. Feel the love as you wave them off. Another example is feeding your child his or her evening meal. Contemplate the miracle of life for a moment, and how far your child has evolved since birth. Or be mindful during a warm exchange with someone at work, be they a client or a colleague. Think about the idea that we all have a soul, and right now, on whatever level, yours and theirs are connecting thanks to your job.

A friend once asked me what it means to “live consciously” and I think that doing some of the above, even if we don’t manage to do it all the time, goes a long way to making life more meaningful. And certainly this week’s New Moon is encouraging it.

As well as the New Moon, this week sees some lovely astrology, including a powerful link between lucky Jupiter and loving Venus on Thursday afternoon. This makes Wednesday night the most romantic night of the week and Thursday morning and lunchtime very auspicious for business dealings. Be aware, though, of Jupiter’s excessive qualities. If you think you might be smothering someone with your love, or in business, being asked to pay too much, you might be right. The only really tricky astro-link of the week falls on Saturday night, when Mercury and Uranus clash. This clash sounds like the basis for a conversation that veers out of control a little ( or a lot!). Try to stay on an even keel, and avoid the temptation to try too hard to persuade someone of something around that time.

The New Moon takes place at 1.18pm on Thursday. For info how to make a New Moon wish, see www.yasmin
