She thought it was great fun, but then Mum loved to stay ac­tive and mo­bile. She’d been go­ing to aer­o­bics for 20 years, where she al­ways stood in the front and never missed a week.

I en­cour­aged her to stay fit as well. We both con­sid­ered it im­por­tant as it meant she could stay in her own home, tend her gar­den and re­main happy and in­de­pen­dent. Even be­fore we ate, I’d get her to sit up and down in her chair five times.
