‘I TRIALLED A FLU TABLET’

Sunday Herald Sun - Body and Soul - - REPORT -

body+soul deputy editor Lizza Gebilagin tells of her experience in a flu trial: “When I lived in Canada years ago, I took part in a trial to test a new flu tablet. There was nothing altruistic about my motive – I needed money for a holiday. They paid me $1500 to spend two weekends in an office space filled with bunk beds and a single TV. We were given the tablet on arrival, and the next morning, the nurses took our blood every 15 minutes for the first three hours, then every hour after that. I met people there who did trials as a living, but I wouldn’t do it again because I left feeling frail and I didn’t enjoy being confined.”
