“Smok­ing is the worst thing a per­son can do for their health,” Jen­nings says. “As far as your heart goes, tox­ins in cigarette smoke dam­age the ar­ter­ies, caus­ing heart dis­ease. Smok­ers aged be­tween 45 and 64 are three times more likely to die, pre­dom­i­nantly from car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­ease, as non-smok­ers but quit­ting at the age of 30, 40 or 50 gives an ex­tra 10, 9 or 6 years of life re­spec­tively.”
