WHICH RESCUE DOG IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Veterinarian Dr Ben Brown, a Sydney Animal Hospitals practice owner, reveals the key things to consider when looking for a furry friend
Puppies
Growing up alongside a pet can be wonderful for children. But your pup will need training, vaccinations and may chew for 12 months or more. Consider how much time (and money) you can commit to raising a good dog.
Adult dog
Rescues may suffer from separation anxiety if they’re frequently rehomed, so choose wisely. Working dogs like kelpies are high energy and will need at least an hour’s exercise every day; if you’re not that active, a more sleepy greyhound will be a better match.
Senior dog
Don’t overlook older dogs, particularly if you have limited mobility.
