EPIC ARCTIC ADVENTURE
Sail off the beaten path on an epic expedition trip sailing the famous Northwest Passage through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago linking the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Departing August 17, 2019, the 17-day voyage on the 198-passenger
begins in Greenland with its villages, dramatic fjords and glaciers, before crossing the Davis Strait to the iceberg-filled waters of Nunavut, Canada’s northernmost territory.
The voyage will follow the Northwest Passage from Baffin Island as far as Kugluktuk near Coronation Gulf featuring icebergs, polar bears, walruses, fjords, Inuit communities and artefacts of former explorers.
The cruise costs from $US14,855 ($19,145) a person, twin-share, a saving of $US1335 ($1720) a person if booked by June 1, 2018. Cruise Traveller is offering Australians an extra two nights’ hotel stay for free – one night in Toronto before the cruise and one night in Calgary afterwards – plus charter flights to and from the ship. When Cunard’s ship calls in local waters next year, her staff will be wearing some distinctly Aussie clobber.
The ship’s bellboys will swap their traditional red and black uniforms and caps for R.M. Williams boots, trousers, shirts, belts and jackets, topped by Akubra hats. Other local touches include a partnership with the Australian Dance Theatre to showcase contemporary Australian dance during local season.
In addition, Melbourne’s Starward Distillery has just put a 225 litre oak barrel of whisky on board. Starward spokesman David Vitale said the range of climatic conditions on board would add interest to the whisky’s maturation during the coming year.
It will be served and tasted against a sister barrel which matured in Melbourne.
Cunard will base in Australian waters from February to April next year, with itineraries from two to 18 nights on offer as she sails from Sydney and Melbourne.
The following summer, the ship will return to Australian waters for 101 days of cruising, from December 2019 to March 2020. PH 132 494, CUNARD.COM
