Avalon Waterways debunks the myth that river cruises are about sitting around watching the world drift by. The company has compiled seven adventures in their Active Discovery tours including these on a new tour on the Rhone in France for 2019: guided hikes through the vineyards surrounding the twin cities of Tournon and Tain-l’Hermitage; painting workshops in the style and techniques of Vincent van Gogh; canoe tours navigating the canyons of Gorges de l’Ardèche; underground wine tastings at the cellars of Châteauneuf-du-Pape; and cycling excursions around the serene Camargue Natural Park in Port Saint Louis. The eight-day Active Discovery Rhone cruise departing Arles and terminating in Lyon starting May 14, 2019, is priced from $5141 a person twin share – save another $500 a person if you book by April 24.
