Model Shanina Shaik on location in her adopted city of New York.
AUSTRALIAN MODEL SHANINA SHAIK CATCHES UP WITH STELLAR IN HER ADOPTED HOMETOWN OF NEW YORK CITY
After conquering runways across the globe, Shanina Shaik is, like fellow Aussie models Ruby Rose and Abbey Lee, ready to try her hand at acting. The Melbourne-born beauty will appear alongside Tom Cruise in the actionpacked reboot of The Mummy, in cinemas next month, and hopes to have another film lined up by the end of the year. “I’m definitely auditioning for other things, so fingers crossed,” she tells Stellar. So, was her first big Hollywood experience as glamorous as one might expect? Not quite. Shaik laughs as she recalls those long days on set. “I thought modelling was all about waiting around – in the casting, in the jobs, on set – but acting took it to another level of extreme waiting,” she says. If her time on set was sometimes a snore, a quick scroll of Shaik’s Instagram feed showcases a life that looks like the complete opposite. A working trip to the Bahamas, an appearance at Coachella, and rubbing shoulders with A-listers, including Gigi Hadid, are all typical for the 26-year-old. Then there’s that other thing keeping her occupied: planning her wedding to renowned DJ (and Lenny Kravitz’s cousin), DJ Ruckus. “We’re getting there, which is super exciting,” she says. “We’ve got the guest list down so I’m really happy about that.” For Stellar’s shoot at The Greenwich Hotel in New York City, Shaik is on
duty as the new face of David Jones brand Studio W. “It’s an amazing collection,” she says. “I love the oversize puffer coats and the dark army greens, nudes and burgundy for wintertime.”
New York is now her adopted hometown, and while Shaik embraces it with vigour, she admits the icy winters leave her homesick. “I love the buzz and vibe of the city – not so much the weather,” she says. Good news: the future bride – and her presumably A-list guests – are likely to be smiling in the sun when she brings them home for that wedding. Studio W is exclusive to David Jones and is available in-store and online now; davidjones.com.au.
