CROWN COMPLEX, SOUTHBANK 9292 4751 BISTROGUILLAUMEMELBOURNE.COM.AU

There’s a reason French cuisine rules eternal and it comes in a bowl.

Guillaume Brahimi’s onion soup is every reason to come (and return) to this Crown stalwart. For the deeply rich, sweet onion soup, with three thyme-topped gruyere croutons, is as swoon-worthy as they come.

When the Nicoise salad fails to excite, an exceptional John Dory on a bed of buttery mushrooms saves the day, followed by the city’s best lemon tart. Service is excellent (with enough accents to keep the Left Bank fantasy alive), with staff who work the handsome room in impressive, fuss-free fashion. ■ Must-eat dish French onion soup ■ Cuisine French ■ Chefs Guillaume Brahimi & Graeme Mclaughlin ■ Price $$ ■ Bookings Yes ■ Open Lunch & dinner daily ■ Instagram @bistro_guillaume_melbourne
