It has always struck me as odd how Father’s Day is a milestone treated with far less reverence than Mother’s Day. While mums are hailed as selfless and saintly caregivers, dads are still often characterised as loveable buffoons. It’s a stereotype hopelessly out of date in 2018, with Australian men more involved than ever in the day-to- day caring of their children. As columnist Joe Hildebrand writes: “This Father’s Day let’s remember who the real dads are. The ones who pack the lunches and patch up the sores… The ones who are there.” And on that note, we wish a happy Father’s Day to all the dads.
