One evening in 2009, as I sat on the sofa holding my then newborn son not long after bringing him home from the hospital, I saw a family on television talking about the tragic death of their baby girl. Earlier that year, Toni and David Mccaffery had lost their four-week-old daughter, Dana, to whooping cough. I was moved to tears watching this remarkable couple speak so bravely about their loss, and remained haunted by their story. A few years later, while working on the No Jab No Play vaccination campaign, I had the privilege of speaking to Toni – and every February I think of her and her family as they mark Dana’s birthday. This month she would have turned 10, and so Stellar caught up with the Mccafferys to reflect on the legacy their daughter and sister left behind.
