To women of a certain age, the words

“I carried a watermelon” will be instantly recognisable. Uttered by the flustered young female lead early on in the late ’80s classic Dirty Dancing, it’s a line that is only narrowly eclipsed by another famous moment – the showstopping “lift”. Turns out Anna Heinrich and Tim Robards are among those who have mastered the iconic Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey dance move. And where else, of course, but at the Melbourne Cup? “We were in the birdcage and it was getting to the end of the day where everyone had a few too many drinks and the song came on,” Heinrich tells Stellar. All of which seems a perfect segue into this year’s spring racing season, as showcased today by Perth-tomboy-turned-fashion-model Sarsha Chisholm. Vibrant colours, florals and head-turning accessories a must. Watermelons optional.
