Alan’s home plan pays off

Sunday Herald Sun - - News -

YEARS of hard saving have set Alan Coignet on the path to achieve his goal of buying his own home.

“I was fortunate enough to put a saving plan in place and stick to it to put myself in a position for a deposit,” he said. “Seventy per cent of the time I was living at home and the rest of the time I was out on my own. It’s a heap harder to save when you’re out of home, especially living with mates — food, drinks, Uber — but I saved enough and am now looking to put a deposit down.”

But he says there were some hiccups along the way.

“The mortgage lenders insurance was the biggest problem I ran into — when you have less than 20 per cent for a deposit, they charge you a pretty big fee in one go.”
