HALF OF KIDS MISSING OUT ON CALCIUM
One in two children aged nine to 16 don’t get the recommended amount of calcium, according to a recent survey, with 80 per cent of girls aged 14 to 16 not getting enough. How much is enough? Kids aged nine to 11 need 1000mg a day (about two glasses of milk and two slices of cheese); teens need 1300mg. Dairy is high in calcium. Green vegies, fortified cereal and bread, salmon and almonds are other sources.
