“I’m cur­rently bat­tling my fifth oc­curence of ovar­ian can­cer in seven years, and my fourth round of chemo­ther­apy in five years. In 2007, when I was 42, I started hav­ing ab­dom­i­nal pain and dis­com­fort. I’m a speech pathol­o­gist and had been work­ing for years in hos­pi­tals with peo­ple re­cov­er­ing from ill­ness and in­jury, so I knew it was im­por­tant to get symptoms checked out.
