In September, Google announced it was rolling out easy-to-use health information on more than 900 commonly searched conditions, ranging from tennis elbow and tonsillitis to measles.

“The information shows typical symptoms and treatments, as well as details on how common the condition is, whether it’s critical, if it’s contagious, what ages it affects and more,” Google product manager Prem Ramaswami says.

The key point is that this information, which has been checked and verified by a team of doctors at Google and the Mayo Clinic in the US, comes up at the very top of the symptom’s search.

At the moment the feature is only available in the US, but Google is planning to expand it into other countries.
