Do not disturb

Full disclosure: when it comes to the art of romantic getaways, I’m not exactly hitting the high notes in a Bryan Adams ballad. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the idea. It’s just that after I’ve done the three loads of washing that have piled up all week, made the bed, taken the cat for a haircut and ferried someone to waterpolo or a croquet lesson, well, I guess you’d say the helium has already leaked from my big, shiny blow-up red-heart balloon.

Which is exactly why I needed to read this week’s romance edition because, well, love is in the air. It’s Valentine’s

Day, of course, and we couldn’t let the opportunity slide.

Whether you’re a romantic or sceptic, in a couple or single, or you just need to reconnect with your partner, yourself or a friend, our edition today should be just the ticket.

Covid may have stolen a little of our mojo, and every relationship (including the one with yourself ) could do with a little tender loving care. Travel is the ultimate way to rediscover the romance of life in general, and remember who you really are or want to be. From suite staycations, romantic short breaks, adventures to bond over, or even “galentine’s” ideas, our writer Alexandra Carlton matches you to your soulmate holiday.

Love boats have not been forgotten. This week we’re also featuring part two of our special cruising series and revisiting voyages our experts have loved and long to take again. From Rio to China, the Baltic and the Kimberley, it’s hard to pick what to adore most. Many may find the sunsets or swoonworthy scenery the most romantic aspect of a cruise. For me, I feel weak at the knees knowing I could visit multiple places and only have to unpack once (and that there is no washing to be taken care of, cats to be groomed, or sports matches to attend).

This week you can even win a cruise of your own – we’ve teamed up with Carnival Cruise Line to give you the chance to win one of 10 family cruises to the Great Barrier Reef, each valued at more than $5000. See for the full details. Now, that’s way more romantic than spending your weekend at home bingeing on Bridgerton.
